“Experience Advent in song, in prayer, with peace.” This year, we invite you to reclaim the season from the distractions that vie for your attention. At the end of the parties, cookies, baking, gifts, moments of loss and loneliness, and crowds of people there is a birth of a small child, poor and vulnerable, whom we profess as Messiah, Christ, Lord, Anointed One, Redeemer, Light of the World, God’s Word Made Flesh, Everlasting Peace. Take the season to experience the full story of Advent through song, in prayer, and with peace. Simplify, Give, Worship, and Reclaim.
On November 30 at 7 PM, singer songwriters Jennifer Knapp and Margaret Becker will be here to perform a Christmas concert from their new album “The Hymns of Christmas.” This kicks off a whole season of music, worship, prayer, giving, and the reclaiming of a season that is often overwhelmed by a crushing tide of distractions. The music continues on December 16, when The Little Red Wagon and QAUMC’s choir offer music as sustenance for our journey to the cradle. And, on December 23, the Dickens Carolers will perform a short concert following worship before heading into the neighborhood to sing the songs of the season for the whole world to hear.
On Wednesdays at 10 AM throughout Advent, Pastor Jenn invites you to gather in prayer. Meeting in the chapel, those assembled will explore the lessons of the season, both the stories of the next coming of Christ as well as those of the first coming with the birth of Jesus. These meditations are designed to root Christians in the story that transforms lives and the world through peace and love.
Our Christmas Eve service this year will be at 7 PM. A Service of Lessons and Carols with Holy Communion, during this gathering we make our way through the anticipation of the birth, through the birth, and into the proclamation of Christ as Light of the World. Come sing your favorite Christmas carols, light your candles, and take the light of Christ to shine into the world.
