Continuing our focus on “Spiritual Identity, Multi-Faith World,” Dr. Cornel West and Susannah Heschel will each give talks on the legacy and work of 20th Century Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, whose works not only greatly influenced the course of American Judaism but also Christianity. At the Vatican Council II, Rabbi Heschel successfully encouraged the Roman Catholic Church to change its liturgy and teachings to no longer paint Jews in a negative light. He worked with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the American Civil Rights movement. And, he was instrumental in the anti-Vietnam movement. As influential as Rabbi Heschel is within Judaism, his life and work extends far beyond his own community.
On March 8, Dr. Cornel West will give a talk called “Heschel and Peace: A Dream for All Faiths.” On March 12, Dr. Susannah Heschel is scheduled to speak on “Abraham Joshua Heschel and Interfaith Relationships: Complicated Past, Important Future.” If you need scholarship assistance, please call or email us at thewellqueenanne (at) gmail (dot) com.
